Suffering From Writer’s Block? Here Are a Few Things to Consider to Beat It

If you are a writer, then you know that one of the many problems that you dread experiencing is writer’s block where you reach a point in your writing that you cannot anymore form words.

Tip #1: Do some freewriting.

If you are currently halfway through finishing your current novel, it may be hard to pull yourself away form the many ideas and outlines that you have already started. Yet, if you cannot get the words out of your thoughts together as you are left staring blankly at your computer screen, then take a deep breathe and leave your novel behind first and think of doing some freewriting.

Start with small steps in freewriting by taking at least fifteen minutes of your day to write about anything that you can think of for a particular day. The best thing about freewriting is that you do not have to worry if your writing makes sense of even worry about its structure because what you just need to do is get the words out of your thoughts and put them into writing.

Freewriting is awesome because it enables you to keep your brain running. Just think of freewriting as a form of warm-up exercise for your writing.

Tip #2: Do some moving around.

Be realistic about things and keep in mind that writing is a very sedentary work. What happens often with writers is that they get some discomfort and could get too cramped up that will then cause their brains to no longer function as usual.

There are a lot of ways that you can get yourself moving to loosen up. Incorporate some walking or jogging, stretching, dancing, breathing exercises, Tai Chi, and Yoga once in a while. Your mind only becomes healthier and more open if you make sure to keep it relaxed.

Tip #3: Quit doing writing first.

This tip does not mean that you have to steer clear from writing for good.

Most of the time, writer’s block happens because writers are overwhelmed with too much writing and have nothing else to think about.

If your writer’s block is just too much to handle, then it is best that you think of other more creative ways to have a comeback by quitting some writing first.

Turn off your laptop for the meantime and do some drawing, collaging, or painting of your own. Yes, writing is also an art, and ensuring to prevent yourself from getting burned out from it is made possible by doing other forms of art.
